How Long Finasteride Side Effects Last After Stopping: How To Reverse Side Effects

In the podcast, I discuss how long finasteride side effects last after stopping and how to reverse finasteride side effects!

The same strategy applies to other DHT blockers as well not just finasteride Here is a transcript of the interview:

1- Why do guys get side effects from taking DHT blockers like finasteride?

Finasteride is a derived from progesterone. Like progesterone, it has anti-dihydrotestosterone effects.

DHT is a major hormone with mental effects as well as good libido.

Testosterone/ DHT ratio is important. One should never take finasteride without checking these hormone rates in the blood.

Finasteride side effects like genital atrophy can be avoided by checking and adjusting hormone rates.

The is a big misunderstanding about testosterone: this hormone doesn’t cause hair loss, on the contrary, your hair is thicker with a good rate of testosterone. Furthermore, testosterone increases Human Growth Hormone and IGF1: a positive effect on your hair.

2- Is there any way to know if one will have side effects from taking a DHT blocker like finasteride?

Finasteride is not advised after 40 years. The reason is that the testosterone rate begins to decrease after 40, and oestradiol increases with age: taking finasteride can amplify the aromatase and increase the more and more the oestradiol, causing gynecomastia.

A big issue is observed today by many practicians: an increased number of young patients (20Y) have low testosterone rates for many reasons: endocrine disruptors, junk food, oestrogenous environment… So if these young patients take finasteride without checking their hormonal status, they take the risk of having side effects. In functional medicine, finasteride is often prescribed even after 40, but these men are in testosterone replacement therapy which gives protection.

3- If one gets side effects what are possible solutions to get back to normal?

Is it possible to do it with supplements, lifestyle, and diet? Treatment must be stopped if side effects are observed.

The first thing to do is a hormonal assay with total and free testosterone, DHT, oestradiol, FSH, and LH in a laboratory. and checking some micronutrients like vitamin D, and zinc. Vitamin D is actually a steroid hormone, not a vitamin. It is made from cholesterol and plays a major role in steroid production. That is why statins are very deleterious on hormonal production, by decreasing cholesterol. Rates of vitamin D must be between 60 and 80 ng/ml. Everybody should take between 5000 and 10,000 UI per day unless you are a surfer living in Hawaii. Zinc deficiency is frequent too, and can help to refind normal testosterone rates, along with a good paleolitic diet.

After 40, alcohol, coffee, and delicatessen should be avoided: they increase oestradiol by acting aromatase enzyme in fat tissues. Keeping a slim fit is also a good idea and often helps to increase testosterone since aromatization occurs in fat tissues.

4- If they restore dht and testosterone balance is it safe for them to take finasteride again? Side effects are very individual and are difficult to predict.

A such decision must be taken with your physician. 5- "If one does everything right how long would it take to go from complete hormonal chaos to normal Does it happen overnight or in months or in years" When there is a perturbation on the hypothalamic axis, things can take weeks or months to restore, but the delay can be dramatically shortened by following a good paleolithic diet along with some supplements like maca, tribulus, diamante leaves, citrulline, arginine, ornithine, glutamine, HMB, D aspartate exercise and paleolitic food.

I discuss on these supplements in my book The Anti-aging Diet, Reverse the biological clock! Finasteride can be replaced by saw palmetto and nettle leaves. However, some physicians think that palmetto side effects on libido are more frequent than those with finasteride.

I never tried to see Palmetto. I think finasteride side effects will be more and more frequent since hypogonadism (DHEA and testosterone) is rising now even in young men, and unfortunately often untreated in Europe. --------------------- Here is a link for an exclusive training video I have made: https://www.somebodyalex.com/
